Pool Planner for double groups

For the double pool, I have made an app to arrange registration for matches and to keep track of the standings. The app has a module to make the match layout based on an up-to-date ranking of the players, so that nowadays there are many more exciting matches. In addition, it has become easier to sign up or cancel for a match.

PimPoule at Tennis club Pim Mulier

At tennis club Pim Mulier there are a number of internal groups where members can play matches among themselves. Matches take place on fixed dates. It's an excellent way to quickly get to know other members. You can decide for yourself which dates you want to play on by registering. The Men's Double Pool now uses this app for registering, entering the results and keeping track of rankings. On Friday nights, it regularly happens that 20 players have signed up to play. The app then creates a match schedule that takes into account the ranking of the players, so that there are almost always exciting matches.

You play at your own level

Before we used the app, the match format was determined by drawing lots. It sometimes happened that two weaker players had to play against two better ones, so the game was less fun.

Fewer problems due to cancellation

Previously, the registrations and results were arranged via a Google Sheet. Giving up and cancelling is now much smoother. Groups of four must be formed. The players who have registered last are then in reserve until a group of four arises again. If you cancel, the reserves will move on and the first reserve will be on play, he will then receive an email that he / she has been put on play. If there are reserves, late cancellation is not such a problem. Often you make someone happy. If there are three reserves, someone is often persuaded to come and play so that an extra foursome is created.

Virtual ranking

At the beginning of the internal competition, each player starts with his or her current KNLTB ranking. After that, a virtual ranking is calculated based on the match results. This calculation is similar to the official calculation. There are some slight adjustments. This way, the difference in ranking of players who form a couple after the match remains the same. The virtual ranking is used in combination with a random function to create the match schedule. Because of this random function, it is still the case with larger groups that stronger players also play with and against each other.

Standings

The results will be entered into the app by one of the winners. In addition to the virtual ranking, there is of course still a normal score, such as number of won and lost sets and a score percentage.

The pool captain

Behind this app is an admin for the pool captain. Via the admin, you can:

  • new players are introduced and invited
  • play dates are added
  • results are corrected

It is very easy to create new playing dates. With a calendar you choose a period between which the new playing dates must fall, a day and a time, and several dates are created at the same time. The pool captain does not have to do much more. Everything takes care of itself. In addition, a WhatsApp or Signal group is of course still necessary for announcements and possibly matches outside the fixed playing dates to arrange.

Purchase of Tennis Pool App

You can purchase the pool planner for € 12.50 per half year. You then become the administrator of a double pool for half a year and can invite an unlimited number of players. After filling in the form, you will be given the opportunity to pay. When the payment has been received, you will receive an e-mail with a link to activate the pool. You can then immediately start inviting players and scheduling game dates.

For associations, it is also possible to purchase several groups and then specify an administrator per pool. You will then receive a login for a management page, in which you can enter the administrator (captain) with an e-mail address. You can then send an e-mail via the system to the new administrator with a link to activate the new pool.
